Anki, Quizlet or Elly? Start With Your Unfinished Study Task
Choose the job you need help finishing before choosing another study app. This worksheet separates preparation, maintenance and planning, so a feature list does not make the decision for you.

A reliable class set, a carefully maintained card collection and a folder of lecture PDFs are different assets. Preserve what already works. Use one topic to test a change, check every answer against its source and return for a later practice session before expanding. The examples below are illustrative; they make no speed, retention or academic-outcome promises.
Task 1
I have source material, but no checked practice set
Pick a permitted lecture excerpt and name the knowledge you need to produce. For an introductory biology lesson, separate a definition of diffusion from explaining what changes when the concentration difference changes. A deck that tests only the definition leaves the second objective unfinished. Compare how each workflow helps you draft, inspect and correct those two questions; include correction work in the trial.
Elly is worth testing when you want source organization, editable notes and practice in a shared workspace. Quizlet also documents AI Study Guides and Practice Tests, so AI preparation is not exclusive to Elly. Anki accepts prepared text and gives you note types and templates for deliberate authoring. Do not compare an unchecked generated deck with a finished collection.
Task 2
I have cards, but maintaining or reviewing them is difficult
First distinguish a bad question from a scheduling problem. If one answer contains a definition, three exceptions and an example, splitting the prompt may help more than migrating. If the questions are sound but the workload is unclear, inspect the review controls and routine. Keep a small error log: what was forgotten, whether the prompt was ambiguous and what correction was made.
Anki's manual documents reusable note structure and detailed deck settings, including FSRS. Quizlet's current help includes several study activities and a spaced-review workflow; check the mode available in your account rather than relying on an older feature table. Elly can be relevant for organizing sources and a routine, but it should not be treated as a promise to reproduce Anki's settings or preserve another app's learning history.
Task 3
I have material, but cannot decide what to study next
Write down the next concrete output you need: explain a mechanism without notes, solve a new problem or retrieve a list of terms. Estimate the time available on a normal day and choose checked material that fits. Planning around hundreds of unverified cards only gives a preparation problem a calendar slot. Leave time to repair errors and revisit the source.
Elly's plan workflow connects existing study material with goals, study days, daily minutes and techniques. That is a different level of organization from choosing an individual card's review settings. A maintained Quizlet class set may remain the right shared reference, and an established Anki collection may remain the right review resource. Add a tool only for a task that is genuinely unfinished; keeping three duplicate decks can create extra maintenance.
Before moving any collection
- Keep the original and a backup. Test a copied topic before changing the resource your course depends on.
- Check permissions. Quizlet's export guidance covers your own authored sets on the website, excludes images and says copied sets cannot be exported.
- Specify what must transfer. Elly's CSV, TSV and TXT card-pair import moves wording, not Anki packages, templates, media, hierarchy or scheduling history.
- Check the destination sample before studying. Count the rows, inspect ambiguous prompts and verify conditions, symbols and units.
