For dental students

Ellie for Dental Students

DAT to INBDE to clinical rotations. One tool across the whole pipeline. Generate cards from DAT Bootcamp, dental anatomy, and pharmacology.

Dentistry is a high-memorization field. The DAT tests biology, general chemistry, organic chemistry, perceptual ability, reading comprehension, and quantitative reasoning. Dental school then adds tooth anatomy, oral pathology, pharmacology, and specialty content. The INBDE — the integrated dental licensing exam that replaced Part I and Part II — tests all of it in a case-based format.

Ellie generates decks from DAT Bootcamp, Chad's Videos study notes, Wheeler's Dental Anatomy, and pharmacology tables. One tool from pre-dent through licensure means content compounds instead of getting re-learned.

DAT — highest-yield sections for flashcards

Biology and general chemistry are the highest-yield DAT sections for spaced repetition. Perceptual ability and reading comprehension are practice-based, not memorization.

  • Biology: cell bio, genetics, physiology, ecology, evolution
  • General chemistry: periodic trends, kinetics, equilibria, acids/bases
  • Organic chemistry: reagent recognition, mechanism cards
  • Perceptual ability: practice, not flashcards
  • Quantitative reasoning: formula recall (limited value; mostly problem-solving)

INBDE and beyond

The INBDE is integrated and case-based, similar in feel to Step 2 CK. Flashcards handle the recall layer (drug interactions, oral pathology recognition, dental materials properties); practice questions handle the reasoning layer.

Frequently asked questions

How does DAT Bootcamp fit with Ellie?

Bootcamp provides content videos and practice tests. Ellie is the retention layer — convert Bootcamp study notes into cards, review daily.

Is the DAT the same as OAT?

Similar structure; different professions. OAT (Optometry) replaces perceptual ability with physics. Content overlap is high — same Ellie decks work for both with minor adjustment.

When should pre-dents start prep?

Serious prep starts 4–8 months before the test. Ellie is most effective when started early — spaced repetition rewards time.

Does Ellie handle dental anatomy diagrams?

Yes. Image occlusion for tooth diagrams, cusp/groove labels, and radiograph landmarks.

Can I share decks with my dental class?

Yes. Dental classes are small; shared decks are common. Publish to your profile and share the link.
