For high school seniors

Ellie for High School Seniors

Senior year is AP exams, SAT prep, and college essays overlapping. Ellie handles the retention side so you can spend your time on essays and applications.

Senior year is the busiest academic year most students face until dedicated study for a professional exam years later. AP exams in May, SAT or ACT in fall or winter, IB exams if you are in a diploma programme, plus applications and essays. Time is the constraint. Spaced repetition compresses the retention side so you can invest hours in the parts that require your judgment.

Ellie generates decks from AP Classroom notes, SAT vocabulary lists, and your class textbooks. AP Biology from Campbell. AP US History from AMSCO. SAT vocabulary from Barron's or the College Board word lists. Review 15 minutes per subject per day and senior-year exam prep becomes maintenance rather than cramming.

AP exams by content type

Not every AP subject rewards flashcards equally. Prioritize the fact-heavy ones.

  • AP Biology, Chemistry, Physics — high flashcard yield (content-dense)
  • AP US History, World History, European History — high yield (dates, events, key people)
  • AP Psychology — high yield (theorists, terms, studies)
  • AP English Language / Literature — lower yield (skill-based, not fact-based)
  • AP Calculus — moderate (formula recall + problem practice)
  • AP Government — high yield (Supreme Court cases, constitutional clauses)

SAT vs ACT — is vocabulary still worth memorizing?

Post-2016 SAT redesign, vocabulary is contextual — no isolated 'sentence completion' section. Vocab still helps reading comprehension speed and precision on the harder passages. Modest deck (~300 words) is enough; do not spend weeks on a Barron's 1,000-word list unless you are targeting a top score.

IB Diploma programme

IB HL courses reward flashcards more than AP because IB questions demand precision. IB Biology HL, Chemistry HL, and History HL are especially flashcard-friendly. TOK and Extended Essay are skill-based; flashcards do not help there.

Frequently asked questions

When should I start prepping for APs?

Cards should exist for the material as you learn it, not after. Building a deck through the school year means AP week is review, not cram.

How does Ellie fit with AP Classroom?

AP Classroom is content videos and progress checks. Ellie is the retention layer between classes. Both together beat either alone.

Does Ellie work for the SAT reading section?

For vocabulary, yes. For passage strategy and inference practice, no — that is practice-test work.

Can I share decks with my class?

Yes. Class-wide shared decks are common for AP subjects. Publish and share the link.

Is Ellie better than Quizlet for AP prep?

Depends on use. Quizlet has vast pre-made AP sets (mixed quality). Ellie generates from your specific class material — usually higher precision, tighter to your exam.
