Move From Chegg Study to Ellie
Chegg is expensive per month and offers little for spaced review. Move the content that matters into Ellie.
Chegg Study Pack has homework help, practice problems, expert Q&A, and Chegg Prep flashcards. The homework help is unique to Chegg; the flashcards and practice content are the parts worth migrating for exam-focused review. Ellie handles both once you extract them.
This guide covers moving Chegg Prep decks and practice problem summaries into Ellie decks so you can review them long after your Chegg subscription lapses.
Chegg Prep decks
Chegg Prep is Chegg's flashcard tool. Open your deck, view all cards, and copy term/definition pairs into a CSV (two columns). Save as `deck.csv`.
In Ellie, create a new deck → 'Import from CSV' → upload. Ellie parses the pairs into fronts and backs.
Homework and practice content
Copy problem statements and worked solutions into the AI generator. Ellie converts them into practice questions with worked-answer backs — closer to a real study workflow than passive rereading of solutions.
What you shouldn't migrate
Chegg's expert Q&A content is licensed and stays on Chegg. Don't upload full expert answers you don't own. Migrate your own notes and any Chegg Prep decks you made.

Does Chegg have a bulk export?
No. Chegg Prep decks require manual copy to CSV.
Can I keep both Chegg and Ellie during migration?
Yes. Move decks over gradually. Cancel Chegg when you've verified everything is in Ellie.
Will formatting like math equations transfer?
LaTeX/math text pastes through in CSV; Ellie renders it if it's wrapped in $...$. Images require re-adding.
Is Ellie cheaper?
Ellie's paid tier is meaningfully less than Chegg Study Pack. Ellie has a free tier; Chegg does not have a comparable free tier.
What if I only used Chegg for homework help?
Ellie is not a homework help service — it is a study tool. If homework help is your only use, Ellie won't replace it. If review and exam prep are the goal, Ellie is a stronger fit.
