Saunders NCLEX-RN — Flashcards From Every Chapter
Saunders is dense and exam-aligned. Ellie converts each chapter into NCLEX-style cards — prioritization, SATA, delegation.
Saunders Comprehensive Review for the NCLEX-RN is the most-used content review book for the exam. It is thorough enough to be your only content source but dense enough that most students only retain about a third on first read. This is the classic retention gap that spaced repetition fixes.
Ellie converts Saunders chapter sections into NCLEX-style cards automatically. Instead of generic Q/A recall, the generator produces the three formats NCLEX actually uses: prioritization, SATA, and delegation. That mirrors how the exam tests you and closes the gap between reading and passing.
How to build a Saunders → Ellie routine
One chapter section per session. Paste, generate, name the deck by topic, tag by system. Review daily for two weeks, then spaced.
- Cardiovascular chapters → prioritization-heavy decks (chest pain, arrhythmias)
- Pharmacology → medication administration and side effect cards
- Maternity → developmental milestones and antepartum/postpartum management
- Psychiatric nursing → therapeutic communication cards
- Fluid, electrolyte, acid–base → cloze deletions on ranges
What to skip
The chapter-opening 'pyramid points' are already summaries — skip these in generation and paste the deeper explanation sections instead. That produces higher-quality cards.
Frequently asked questions
Which edition should I use?
The current edition. NCLEX content updates every three years with the passing standard review; Saunders updates in sync.
How does this compare to UWorld NCLEX?
UWorld is Q-bank (exam practice). Saunders is content review. You need both — Ellie sits on top of Saunders as the retention layer.
Can I use Saunders for NCLEX-PN?
The publisher has a separate Saunders NCLEX-PN book. Structure is similar; scope is adjusted for LPN/LVN practice.
How long before my exam should I start?
8–12 weeks. Ellie spaced-repetition needs at least six weeks to move cards into long-term memory reliably.
Does Ellie support the NGN case-study format?
Ellie generates individual cards for each step of the Nurse Clinical Judgment Measurement Model. For full unfolding case-study practice, pair with UWorld.
