Import Your Cram Decks Into Ellie
Cram.com is showing its age. Move your decks to Ellie in five minutes and get AI features on top of your existing cards.
Cram.com (formerly Flashcard Exchange) has been around since 2002. It hosts hundreds of thousands of user-submitted decks and remains a go-to for quick topic-based cramming. But the platform has not evolved — no AI generation, no meaningful spaced repetition, an ad-heavy UI. If you've built your own decks there, exporting them is straightforward, and the result works cleanly in Ellie.
Step 1 — Find your deck on Cram
Log in to Cram.com. Go to 'My Flashcards'. Open the deck you want to export.
Step 2 — Copy the cards out
Cram does not offer a bulk export button. Options: 1) Manually copy the term/definition pairs from the deck view into a CSV. 2) Use a browser extension that scrapes visible flashcards from a page. 3) Copy the printable version (some decks have a 'Print' link that renders all cards on one page).
Format the CSV as two columns: term, definition. Save as `deck-name.csv`.
Step 3 — Import into Ellie
In Ellie, create a new deck. Choose 'Import from CSV.' Upload your file. Ellie parses the two columns as fronts and backs. Review the preview, click Import.
Frequently asked questions
Does Cram have an official export?
No. You have to extract via CSV manually or with a scraper extension. Ellie accepts standard CSV once you have it.
Will images come through?
CSV is text only. If your Cram deck relied heavily on images, you'll need to re-add them in Ellie after import (usually a small subset of cards).
Can I import multiple decks at once?
Import them one at a time. You can organize into folders after import.
Is my Cram data still safe?
Yes — importing to Ellie does not delete the Cram source. Keep your Cram account until you've verified everything is in Ellie.
What if I only used pre-made public Cram decks?
Search Ellie's public deck library first — many popular Cram topics have equivalents. Otherwise use the CSV route.
