Turn Your Notion Study Notes Into Flashcards

Notion is where notes live; Ellie is where reviews happen. Move the notes into a review-ready deck in about ten minutes.

Notion is the most common home for structured study notes — collapsible headings, toggles, callouts, tables. It's a great authoring environment but a poor review environment. Reading Notion pages is not studying. Turning them into flashcards is.

There are two workable ways to bridge them: an export-based workflow (best for larger notes) and a copy-paste-generate workflow (best for one page at a time). Both take under ten minutes.

Workflow A — Export from Notion

In Notion, open the page. Click the '...' menu → 'Export' → select Markdown & CSV. Notion downloads a .zip. Unzip and find your page as a `.md` file.

In Ellie, create a new deck. Choose 'Import from Markdown' (or use the AI generator with the Markdown as input). Ellie extracts headings, bullets, and definitions into cards.

Workflow B — Copy-paste the page

Faster for a single page. In Notion, select all (Cmd/Ctrl+A) inside the page and copy. In Ellie, open the AI flashcard generator, paste, and click generate. Review the deck.

Which to pick

Export for pages with tables, images, or heavy nested structure. Copy-paste for short focused pages. Both take the same total time; export gives Ellie richer structure to work from.

Frequently asked questions

Do Notion tables come through?

Simple tables convert to a table of terms/definitions. Complex databases don't transfer cleanly — recreate them as a Notion CSV export first.

Will Notion toggles work?

Toggles export as headings + collapsed content in Markdown. Ellie treats each toggle heading as a candidate flashcard prompt.

Can I re-import if I update the Notion page?

Yes — but you'll get a new deck, not an in-place update. Delete the old deck if the new one supersedes it.

Does formatting matter?

Cleaner Notion structure (headings, bullets, bolded terms) produces better flashcards. Wall-of-text prose produces vaguer cards.

Is my Notion data private?

Exports happen on your machine. Ellie only receives what you paste or upload. Nothing is fetched from Notion by us.
